Autumn community crisis network training programme: info-evening at Haabersti District

On August 25, an information session was held at the Õismäe Leisure Centre to introduce Haabersti residents to the civil protection and community crisis network training programme taking place this autumn.

During the session, Hannes Nagel, Head of the Crisis Research Centre, spoke about the importance of community preparedness and the role that active residents and local cooperation can play during crises. Participants were also introduced to the structure and topics of the upcoming training programme and to opportunities for becoming involved in Haabersti’s community crisis network.

The free training days in Haabersti will take place on 12 September, 29 November and 6 December 2026 at the Õismäe Leisure Centre. The programme is aimed at adult residents of Haabersti who would like to strengthen their knowledge and practical skills and are willing to contribute to supporting their community and district when normal everyday life is disrupted.

The training covers crisis preparedness in Estonia, Tallinn and Haabersti, the role of communities in crisis situations, and ways in which residents can support one another. A substantial part of each training day is dedicated to practical first aid training led by paramedic Andrus Lehtmets. The trainings will be held in Estonian and are free for the participants.

The aim of the programme is not only to improve participants’ individual preparedness, but also to help develop a network of active local residents whose knowledge and skills can contribute to the resilience of the wider Haabersti community in times of crisis.
